Trucking Accidents

The U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that over 100,000 truck accidents occur every year. Given the difference in size and weight of an 18-wheeler versus a car, these accidents are often fatal.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently introduced a new safety program. It’s goal is to achieve a greater reduction in large truck and bus crashes, injuries, and fatalities. The program identifies behavior and safety categories that can lead to trucking accidents. These categories include: unsafe driving, controlled substance and alcohol usage, fatigued driver, improper vehicle maintenance, improper driver training, and improper securing of cargo.

About J.P. Sawyer

During his 9 year tenure as a partner at the Beasley Allen Law Firm, J.P. first developed a passion for practicing wrongful death and personal injury law.

However, closest to his heart has always been representing those that have been abused or neglected by the very nursing homes that were entrusted to care for them.

J.P.’s commitment to fighting for some of society’s most vulnerable members remains unwavering despite laws governing nursing home litigation becoming increasingly complex and difficult to navigate. In 2009 he was co-lead counsel in a landmark case for “resident’s rights” that resulted in a 4.75 million dollar settlement against a major nursing home chain.
